The weekly lessons run for 60 minutes, from 4:30 p.m. Each class usually has about 3 to 8 members. Students are placed according to age and the level of English communication. Students will be grouped in the following ways depending on enrollment numbers:
Grade 1-3 age range – Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels.
Grade 4-6 – Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels.
Grades 7 and higher – Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels.
Applications are accepted year-round.
Some classes are presently using the “Let’s Go” text and workbook series. Others are using the Oxford Reading Tree reading selections and/or other children’s novels or short stories. ELS teachers use these texts/readers/novels as a springboard for developing the students’ communication skills in English, namely: listening, speaking, vocabulary, key question and sentence patterns, reading comprehension, and writing, among others. Language games, word studies, skits and role-plays often make up part of the lesson. If a novel or text is required for the class, parents will be notified of the cost to be covered.
