Local Pride and Global Possibilities

We are very fortunate to have the host city and culture of Kyoto Japan, which provides limitless opportunities for learning through a variety of experiential activities in history, culture and art.  We also welcome the rich diversity of backgrounds and experiences that our students bring to KIS which facilitates the sharing of different perspectives amongst our students. In so doing, we actively encourage the students to be open-minded and critical thinkers.

There is a significant need to accept that the world is becoming more global with fewer barriers between cultures and nations.  This is indeed an exciting time, and forces us to consider how to prepare our students to be collaborative within the global community.

KIS students understand their responsibility of being a member to a wider family, which includes the community within our school, within our local community of Juraku, within the city of Kyoto, within the nation of Japan and within the broader global community. At KIS we believe in the fundamental value of compassion and we foster a culture of integrity, openness and respect. We instill  the knowledge and confidence to live harmoniously within different communities, both new and familiar, at home and abroad. Action and community service is an integral part of life at Kyoto International School and central to the IB philosophy. Student action is integrated into the Program of Inquiry and classroom work wherever possible. At KIS we view action as service that arises from the students’ learning.

The entire school community takes action to  change our world for the better.

Soon we will add examples of how the KIS community is taking action for the local and global community.
